An acid wash is an aggressive restoration treatment that removes a very thin outer layer from a compatible plaster finish. It may improve certain mineral stains, algae residue and widespread discoloration, but it is not a substitute for routine cleaning and it should never be recommended from photos or water color alone.
Pool Era first considers the type, age and condition of the interior finish and whether a less invasive treatment could address the problem. If acid washing is appropriate, the work requires controlled application, neutralization, cleanup, careful refill and startup balancing. Existing etching, mottling, cracks or worn plaster may remain visible and can limit the final result.
Hard water, intense sun and periods of poor circulation can leave Las Vegas pool surfaces with stubborn mineral discoloration or embedded organic staining. Acid washing may help certain conditions, but repeated treatment shortens plaster life and some pools need spot treatment, tile cleaning or resurfacing instead. Our recommendation is based on the finish—not simply the appearance of the water.

Does a pool acid wash remove every stain?
No. Results depend on the stain source, depth and surface condition. Rust, deep mineral discoloration, worn plaster and finish mottling may respond differently or require another treatment or resurfacing.
How do I know whether my pool needs an acid wash?
Widespread staining, algae residue or discoloration may justify an assessment, but appearance alone is not enough. The interior finish must be inspected to determine whether it can tolerate the treatment.
How long does an acid wash take?
The schedule depends on pool size, finish condition, preparation, weather and drain/refill times. We confirm the expected sequence after inspecting the pool and approving the scope.
Can an acid wash be used on a pebble or specialty finish?
Suitability depends on the exact finish, manufacturer guidance and current condition. We do not assume that a process appropriate for standard plaster is safe for every specialty surface.
Will acid washing damage the plaster?
Acid washing intentionally removes a very thin surface layer, so unnecessary or repeated treatments reduce plaster life. That is why Pool Era recommends it only after evaluating condition and alternatives.
Should calcium tile cleaning be completed at the same time?
It may be efficient to coordinate services when waterline deposits are present, but the tile, grout and surrounding finish are assessed separately so the correct cleaning method is selected.
